Domaine Vigneau la Juscle Jurancon Doux 2014
Within this small organically farmed domaine the winemaker Michel Valton produces fabulous wines. Michel Valton only makes one Jurancon, and its not normal. Every year, whilst his neighbors pick in Sept, Oct and occasionally Nov, Michel waits. He then waits a bit more. Then its time for Christmas, so he relaxes a while. When it comes to Jan, months after most vineyards are bare, Michel picks. Some years rot means there is nothing worthwhile. But when it works, boy does it work and the concentration is in the stratosphere.
Honey, acacia, minerality, some more honey, and a bit of honey. This is momentous. It also rather understandably won the Coup de Coeur in the Guide Hachette last year. Sadly he doesn’t have much, so volumes are very small and prices are quite high, but the wine is a true experience.
