Regal Lopez Adega Adartia 2015
From the Ribeira Sacra region of Northwest Spain. The region is notoriously hard to cultivate, but it has amazing geography and soils and can produce fantastic, elegant, characterful wines. Think of a theoretical combination of Chambolle Musigny and Cote Rotie - lovely crisp red fruit yet with a peppery spicy undertone. Winemaker Roberto Regal re-started the local co-op which went bust and instead of making cheap plonk makes simply stunning single plot wines, from old vines with fruit bought from individual growers. It’s very low intervention winemaking, and he doesn’t smother them in oak allowing the fruit to sing.
This is the selection of all his best single parcels, blended together with the majority being Mencia. This is fragrant, with an amazingly long finish and incredibly finely grained tannins and overall gorgeous structure.
