Hudelot Baillet Chambolle Musigny 1er Cras 2016
Hudelot-Baillet is relatively new Domaine by Burgundy standards, having started in 1981. They’re very rarely seen outside France and they’re quite an exciting discovery for us. Neal Martin, Robert Parker’s European correspondent voted their village level Bourgogne as the best 09 at that level that he tasted, so look out for the rising star of this estate.
Allen Meadows: "This is aromatically comparatively similar to the Charmes if perhaps slightly higher-toned as the fruit comes more from the red side of the fruit spectrum. There is excellent intensity and verve to the more mineral-driven and tension-filled medium-bodied flavors that display excellent power and persistence. This is not an elegant wine but it's certainly serious and will require a minimum of 6 to 8 years of cellaring and reward 12 to 15. 90-92"
