Alexandre Filaine Sensuum Vertigo 2011
Fabrice Gass is based in Damery, Montagne de Reims where he produces about 4000 bottles a year. Until recently he worked as a winemaker at Bollinger, but he now focuses fully on his own estate. Fermentation is done in probably the oldest oak and acacia barrels we've seen in Champagne, some of them are from 1937.
This is Fabrice's top wine, and it's the first year we've been given an allocation - we got the grand total of 12 bottles, hurrah! (he only makes 120 a year). This was just disgorged a couple of weeks ago for our order, after having spent 6 years on lees, so it's super fresh and toasty at the same time. This is truly fantastic, and really shows what Fabrice is capable of. Rich and complex with plenty of weight but with an incredible purity and finesse. Laser fine acidity balances out the richness and makes it wonderfully elegant and lively.
