Sadie Palladius 2016
Eben Sadie started his winemaking career working for Charles Back’s Spice Route – labelled wines before breaking off on his own in 1999. Over the past decade he has acquired the reputation as the most innovative, even anarchic winemaker in South Africa.
The Palladius is a blend largely based on Chenin Blanc (60%) plus Roussanne, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Clairette. The Chenin ensures the presence of a backbone of acidity while the Rhone varietals add weight, flesh, aroma and texture. This is a glorious wine with hints of tropical fruit on the nose, peach and apricot and a long, long finish with crisp minerality.
