Raiano Taurasi 2014
Taurasi is a really interesting wine appellation in the Campagnia region of Italy. The vineyards are situated 500 metres above sea level, and get a cool breeze that blows off the Bay of Naples. This same breeze has, over the centuries, blown volcanic ash from Vesuvius inland to give the soil here a volcanic character. The grape Aglianico thrives here—producing big, powerful spicy wines, that age brilliantly. Dark fruits, black cherries and Christmas spices on the nose. Good palate weight and rich fruit with a refreshing acidity and punchy, characteristic tannins.
