Fermando Castilla is one of the best small houses making sherry and one of The Samplers
favourite winemakers. On a recent visit we tasted this and thought it was one of the best PX we have ever tried. It is made from a 40 year old solera (hence the Antique bit). PX is one of the gloopiest, sweetest wines in the world, but here it is not cloying at all. Instead you have lots of dried fruit flavours, but with an orange edge that this particular wine is known for.
Jancis Robinson: “Really lively as well as being amazingly sweet but with the treacly lift of a well balanced wine of this sort. Sweet, rich. interesting and tangy. Lots of treacle and dried fruit character.”
