Grower Champagne – small producers, superb quality, great value
David Léclapart is a very young domaine, only founded in 1998. His 3 hectares of vineyard in Trépail on the Montagne de Reims are run completely biodynamically - no mean feat in the marginal climate of Champagne. The champagnes do not have any reserve wines added so are all from single years (stated on the back of the bottle) and are all bottled with zero dosage. His champagnes attracted immediate attention from champagne connoisseurs when first released and now can be very hard to find.
These are champagnes that are extremely high quality – but also are very unusual, so are best suited to enjoying with fellow lovers of champagne. It is also worth decanting them as they can be very tightly wound when young do benefit from some aeration.
Youthful and racy with notes of crisp apple and white peach. Steely and refined.
Grape: 100% Chardonnay
