Pizzorno Tannat Reserva 2006 How exciting, not only do we have a wine from Brazil, we now have one from Uruguay! Like neighbouring Brazil, Uruguayan wines aren’t that well known and for the moment, not that widely available beyond their own borders. However, much like Carmenere is Chile’s calling card, Tannat has flourished in Uruguay and generally produces more approachable wines there than in France.
Not to diminish the wine in any way, but this is a brilliant food wine, made for drinking with a char-grilled steak with plenty of guts and seasoning. There is black fruit and a smoky character to the wine and firm tannins and good acidity. Structured and flavoursome.
