D'Auphilac Les Servieres 2009 This domaine was started on a shoestring in 1989 where the wine was vinified in a lorry tanker and they grew melons to make ends meet. Now the domaine is one of the soundest in the Languedoc produces great wines. This is the second wine to the famous Montpeyroux.
Made from 100% Cinsault vines planted over a 100 years ago on hillside terraces. The wine is vinified on the lees for 7 days and then is matured in small oak casks. The aromas remind you of Pinot Noir floral notes with a hint of confiture. The nose is dominated by sharp red fruits and the wine is fresh and aromatic with an attractive surprisingly long finish.
Grape: Cinsault

Customer Reviews
Average rating: | So-so cinsault, 16th Jun 2010 | Reviewer: Ruth Spivey | Having never tasted a 100% cinsault wine before I purchased this in the name of research. Unfortunately this bottle didn't sway me to think I have been missing out on something. It was generally OK, and it's only a tenner, but I have had finer bottles in the same price bracket. I found it 'rustic', verging on a bit coarse, fruity but more sour fruit, none of which is necessarily negative, and it definitely more palatable with food. Afraid I wouldn't purchase it again, but look forward to other cinsaults to compare. Apologies for the lack of jokes. As much as I would like 2 entries, I can't muster a single jot of humour today, nonetheless, music to your ears as I will have to buy and review again. |
