Grandes Costes 2009 Domaine Les Grandes Costes
Les Grandes Costes, Pic Saint Loup 2009
Family-owned since 1868 the winemaker, Jean-Christophe Granier, took over in 2000 and the property now covers 12 hectares and grows four typical Mediterranean varieties; Carignan and Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah. The vines are between 20 and 50 years and old produce elegant wines with a great spiciness.
Using handpicked grapes from very low yields of 28ha/ L this wine is traditionally stomped to release the concentrated juices. 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache the wine is half aged in new French oak for 16 months. A nose of black fruit, spice and balsamic undertones this wine has velvety tannins and a fresh finish. Great to accompany pies, red meat, Coq au vin or even fois grais this is a versatile wine that will last at least another 10 years.
