High above the Danube the terraced vines of Achleiten are the source of one of the most brilliant Grüner Veltliners in Austria. This has an intensity and purity of flavour you seldom encounter - denoted by the term 'Smaragd' on the label. It can serve as a paradigm of Grüner Veltliner: musk and pepper, fruit and perfume, taut and exotic, solo or with food; whichever way you look at it this is a great wine.
