D'Esclans Esclans 2010 Chateau d'Esclans Esclans
Chateau D’Esclans is a relatively young winery based in the Cotes de Provence. Owned by Sacha Lichine (son of Alexis Lichine who owned Lascombes and Prieure-Lichine) and produced by oenologist Patrick Léon of Mouton Rothschild fame.
Esclans is their middle wine - above the Whispering Angel but not quite scratching the heights of Garrus - their top wine (and the most expensive rose in the world!). Made predominately from Grenache, this is the second wine of the Chateau. It sees partial oak fermentation which adds texture, but this is still a refreshing rose at heart, though there are more savoury characters than you’d find in most Provencal rosés. Complex and long, this is classy stuff.
