D'Esclans S Clans rouge 2008 Chateau D’Esclans is a relatively young winery based in the Cotes de Provence. The Chateau spent a few years in obscurity, owned as it was by a Swedish pension fund who preferred to sell on the grapes rather than produce an estate bottled wine. The winery’s fortune changed when it was purchased in 2006 by Sacha Lichine and now, with renowned oenologist Patrick Léon of Mouton Rothschild fame at the helm, the estate is forging a new path for Provencal wines.
A blend of Grenache and Syrah this is a sunny wine from a sunny clime. On the nose, red and black cherry come through along with riper rounder notes of plum and a hint of dark chocolate and clove. The mouth is also abound with fruit, yet has a nice peppery lift and a hint of that spice. Enough tannin for food, not too much for without.
Grapes: Grenache and Syrah
