Batailley 1966

Batailley 1966

Reliable 5th growth in Pauillac. Ex chateau stock of the 1966 vintage, one of the greatest of the century.

Batailley is the larger sibling of Haut-Batailley and is located in Pauillac, just west of Chateau Latour. Classed as a Fifth Growth, it tends to punch well above its weight and has a reputation as a drinker’s claret. To our mind, Batailley is one of the last remaining great value classified growths in Bordeaux. In almost every year the chateau makes a great, classically styled Pauillac with elegance and grace.

1966 wasn’t generally classed as a great vintage but we think these wines have aged brilliantly and always show an elegance some of the ‘greats’ lack. Classic aged Pauillac, with notes of spice, earth and leather all underpinned up a graphite minerality. Light in body with silky soft tannins, this is really a delight.
