Gaia Assyrtiko Wild 2010 Although only established as recently as 1994, the vines on the Gaia estate are amongst the oldest in Europe. Located on the Greek island of Santorini, it is the volcanic composition of the island which lends wines produced here such minerality. Traditionally vines are cultivated low to the ground in a distinctive basket shape to help protect them from strong winds. Assyrtiko is the main grape variety here.
Made from 80 year old ungrafted vines, this is bone dry with a zingy, citrus character along with a hint of brine, touch of apple, green olive and plenty of minerality. Fresh and bright, it makes a perfect match to shellfish.
