First Drop Big Blind 2009 A nebbiolo, barbera blend...from Australia!
Yes Italy’s Piedmonte region might be these grapes natural home, but First Drop are experimental winemakers who along with making wonderful wines from shiraz and cabernet, specialise in Italian grapes.
The combination works very well. The nose has lots of aromatics—cherries and spices. The palate is medium bodied, with red berry fruit with a nice savoury character. There’s good structure and acidity, which you would expect from the grapes. It’s a little riper and warmer than a Piedmonte version, but it is from Australia after all!
