Tyrrells Vat 1 Semillon 2003 Hunter Valley Semillon is arguably one of Australia’s greatest wines—and most distinctive. With some age these wines gain a savoury, lanolin flavour that is unlike anything else. This one is still fairly young and fresh with mere hints of the complexity it will gain in a few more years. Classic Hunter Semillon.
Neal Martin: “This has very fine lift on the nose: lime cordial, nettle, dandelion and dried flowers, very succinct and well defined. The palate is a slightly oxidative entry, nicely balanced, the fruit taking a back seat to more tertiary flavours at the moment, but very good length. This is an absorbing, almost enigmatic Semillon, but it will blossom (in time.)” 90 points
