A really characterful wine made from 100% carignan from 85 year old vines. The wine is from the Terrases du Larzac in the Langedoc region of France. This is a particularly exciting area for us wine nerds as there is a lot of wine experimentation going on and the results can be great like here.
Carignan needs great care to make a great wine. The grape has naturally high acidity and tannins—a wine that makes you want some food! Here the vibrant fruit really stands out. Really expressive nose of dark fruit, olive tapenade and soft spice which is followed onto the palate. If you’re cooking a red meat based meal, pop open the bottle and let it breathe while you’re cooking and it’ll be even better.
