Fonseca 1997 Fonesca is one of the most famous Port houses. Established in 1822 the port is still produced by the founding family now in their sixth generation.Port is produced in the Douro by fortifying wine with neutral grape spirit known as aguardente in order to stop the fermentation. This leaves residual sugar in the wine, and boosts alcohol content.
