Chapoutier Cote Rotie 1983 Chapoutier is one of the biggest names in the Rhone Valley, making wines both from their own vineyards and using bought-in grapes from their growers. They are perhaps best known for their Ermitages—which must be placed among the top wines in the world. Cote Rotie is a small appellation in the Northern Rhone making wines from Syrah with just a touch of Viognier. 1983 was an excellent vintage in the region.
This is now fully mature and quite delicate. Classic Cote Rotie notes of dried meat (think salami and biltong) mingle with spice, pepper and smoke. Light in body with silky soft tannins and just a hint of that Syrah florality.
