Waterkloof Syrah 2008 This is the second wine of the tasting to come from this organic estate in South Africa—no mean feat. Syrah is big news in South Africa these days and there are some really superb examples being made. This one was aged for 22 months in large oak barrels to help soften the wine and add spicy complexity.
Decanter: “Attractively ripe fruit plus spicy oak. Punchy and concentrated with lots of fruit in reserve. Old-fashioned coffee and leather notes leading into the fine, lengthy finish.” Gold medal 2011
