Schmelzer are situated in the Burgenland in Eastern Austria, and are one of the very few certified biodynamic wineries in the region, indeed Georg Schmelzer has been following broadly biodynamic principles since before biodynamic winemaking principles were put onto paper. 70% of the vines  are planted with red grapes, in fact he is a bit of a red wine specialist - Zweigelt to be precise - the wonderful spicy red wine with deep raspberry and cherry fruit.  The wines here see very minimal or zero sulphur and are often released late to enable the wines to be showing at their best when you open them. They are brilliantly made, fascinating, and great value too.
