Gouges Nuits St Georges 2016
Henri Gouges is possibly the most famous of Nuits-St-Georges domains. The family remain staunchly old fashioned in their approach, using cement vats for fermentation and predominately old oak barriques for ageing the wines. These are wines that are made to last and top crus are capable of lasting for decades.
Neil Martin: The 2016 Nuits Saint Georges Village includes what could be saved from the vineyards of Chaines Carteaux and Les Chaignots after the frost. It has a very satisfying bouquet with dark berry fruit, touches of undergrowth, a palpable sea influence (oyster shells and a touch of kelp). The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly green entry, but very fresh with a fine bead of acidity, quite cohesive with a slightly compact, again, citric-fresh finish. Enjoy over the next decade.
