Chateau Bas d'Aumelas Rouge 2018
This domaine is located at the highest point of the Grès de Montpellier” appelation in the Languedoc and is one of the very few domaine within this up and coming AOP Languedoc. Jean-Philippe and Geoffroy, two brothers, are the 33rd generation of the d'Albenas Family who took over the family business and restarted the wine-making activity in 2001. After restoring old plots and planting new vines they are now farming 16 hectares of vineyards, practicing organic with no use of herbicides, pesticides or insecticides. The grapes are carefully parcel-selected and harvested by hand. In the cellar old methods of vinification and modern practice are combined using cement tank, fiber vat or oak barrel. Each grape variety is fermented separately and then blended together. Grenache and Mourvedre are age 8 months in vat, the Syrah is aged in oak barrels.
Complex, concentrated and rich with notes of blackcurrant fruit, pepper and licorice. Very balanced with subtle tannins.
Region: Languedoc, France
