Chateau Grandis 2009
Château Grandis is a small, relatively unheard of, estate of just 10 hectares run by Brice Vergez. Brice and his father before him François-Joseph have deliberately chosen to keep the estate small in order to tend their vineyards as much by hand as possible. To this end each row of vines is ploughed rather using systematic herbicide and harvesting is entirely done by hand, as is pruning and a green harvest that helps to ensure full phenolic ripeness in each berry.
Classic Bordeaux on the nose with blackcurrant, black cherry, cedar, leather and clove. The fruit character is dominant on the palate with the developing character displayed more in the background. The medium tannins are ripe and the wine has good length. This will certainly improve further over the next few years.
Grapes: Cab Franc, Cab Sauvignon, Merlot
Region: Haut Medoc, Bordeaux
