Mas del Perie Acacias 2019
Cahors is a small appellation in SW France where Malbec is the main grape variety. The winemaker here is a bit of a character with a full-on bushy beard and slight revolutionary tendencies. When the AOC authorities told him to pull up his Jurancon Noir vines he went and bottled it by itself and named it ‘You F*** my Wine’. Yup, that’s our kind of winemaker. This is one of Fabien Jouve’s top cuvees, aged in acacia barrels rather than oak, making this wine wonderfully pure with no vanilla notes.
Deep and full bodied, inky dark in colour with lovely dark fruit and violet notes. Restrained, lifely and with delicious fresh acidity. While there is lots of structure the tannins are really well managed (Cahors can be a bit tannic). This is a fantastic wine from a relatively unknown region and joyous to drink.
